If “yes,” you are the person we have been looking for! If you’re not sure, don’t worry, it’s easier than you think!
Our instructions aim for minimal impact, for a pleasant and environmentally friendly stay.
1. Check In and Check Out Times
Check – In is scheduled from 16.00 onwards in SELF – CHECK IN mode. We will send you a link with all the explanations to carry it out before your arrival.
Notify us in advance of any entry requirements at different times and we will do our best to accommodate you. SelfCheck-in or Early Check or Late Check, involves an extra 10.00 euro and is subject to availability. Entry for advance baggage storage incurs an extra charge of 5.00 euros.
Check – Out is by 09.30 am.
2. Parking and Sustainable Mobility.
In Cabras, as in all towns in Sardinia, there is a custom for homeowners to park in front of their homes. Park your car in Cesare Battisti Street in the widest part taking care not to get in the way of your neighbors’ doors or windows, or in the clearing of the long pond used for parking, which you reach by turning left after passing Limolo, as soon as the paved road ends.
Please vacate the front of Limolo House. Avoid parking on Messina Street: it is narrow and already very crowded.
A few extra steps will allow you to become familiar with the country and its inhabitants.
Explore the country sustainably: You don’t need a car for your tours of the surrounding area, from the old town to the long pond. It is only a few steps on foot. If you want to ride a bike let us know beforehand, we will provide vintage bikes for you to use for a few hours. Use them and have fun with care in compliance with the “bike limolo” Rules that you will find hanging in the back of the front door. A little extra free-will offering will help us take care of maintenance. For longer trips or durations we will send you the address of a bike rental right next door in Limolo.
3. Keys and Entrance
In your room lock you will find the room key in special wooden key ring or boat cordage (if you look around you will also understand what wood we recycled to make it) , along with the entrance key to the door dwelling Via Cesare Battisti 56.
Do not turn the key on the front door lock in Limolo. Just make sure it is tightly closed.
Did you lock yourself out? Call or WhatsApp us at +393924812458 Daniela, or +393473886101. If we do not respond, no fear. Be patient.We will still respond to you within an hour or so if for some reason we are engaged in some other action. Stroll along the streets of the country, take your time. We are on our way.
4. Common Spaces.
LIMOLO’s entrance hall welcomes you with all its art installations, created by various artists who have reused and recycled materials or worked with natural raw materials. You will discover how the world of art can meet the world of sustainability.
A kind of small exhibition of contemporary art where the various works coexist with each other like a large installation. Allow time for a tour, guided if you want, otherwise use the brochure in the room with an explanation of the works.
Do not leave jackets, jackets towels and other personal belongings in the entrance hall. Other visitors should also find it neat.
In Limolo, silence is golden! In the center of the fishing district we follow the rhythms of life of its inhabitants. You will notice that already after 10 p.m. the quiet and silence falls: they are ready to wake up at 4 a.m. to go fishing or work in the countryside. We respect all this; after all, you have chosen a land-based vacation.
Use of common areas is allowed from 7.30 a.m. until 11 p.m., respecting guests whose rooms face the indoor gardens. Before or After such an hour you can stay and read or do silent activities.
Limolo has a spirit of Co-housing that allows for making new friends and sharing new knowledge and practices but also for being in privacy. This is possible if we all respect each other’s autonomy.
The Rooms
The rooms, built with natural materials such as raw earth and lime, not only provide natural thermal comfort due to their thermal inertia but are also living examples of how architecture can contribute to the well-being of guests and the environment.
*The Windows: Heat and Cold
* Light Usage: Energy Saving
* Water Usage: Water Conservation
* Garden Usage: To Make You Happy
* WIFI
5. Windows and Natural Ventilation
Room windows should be kept ajar or open at all times. There are mosquito nets.
Fear not, no thieves, snakes, or even mosquitoes and scoffers enter. Air pollution will not enter either. In Cabras and Sardinia in general, we don’t know what it is.
The climate inside the rooms is provided by the thermal efficiency of the natural materials used in the construction, (mainly unfired earth and lime), combined with natural ventilation (draft between windows on vertical walls and ventilation holes on the side walls opposite the windows or velux-type windows on the roof), low-power electric fan action when needed, shading from trees and plants installed specifically for this in the garden, on the walls of the rooms, and on the roof. You are also the architect of your room’s indoor temperature.
If it’s hot or very hot outside, here’s what you’ll need to do to improve it and thus get a good temperature without energy consumption:
- In the morning, before going out for your excursions, leave the window of the room ajar and the panes covered by the blackout curtains. (The draft that will be created will blow hot air from the room out of the ventilation holes at the top of the roof and walls.)
- In the evening when you return, as the sun goes down, open the window more and if the air is still, help the exchange with the ceiling or floor-standing fan in the room. Remember to turn it off before going to dinner. As the evening and night progresses, the warm air in the room will be replaced by the cool evening air that comes from the breeze from nearby ponds and lagoons and from the microclimate we have created in Limolo’s green gardens.
- At the time of reentry, it may seem to you that it is hot. Know that it is quite normal, at 7 p.m. there is the buildup of the day’s heat, and you will also be hot from the day’s activities or the sea. Simply be patient; it is a passing feeling. And if you also feel some heat, maybe it is precisely because it is there, so what?
- Can it really be the solution to fill the world with plants and produce heat endlessly, just to avoid waiting ten minutes? Or not being able to tolerate a little heat, which is an integral part of life, just like the sun, the moon, the sea, the earth, the sky and the cold. We may have to learn not to always desire the opposite of what we have, because achieving that at all costs through technology and consumption may not be a victory but rather a defeat.
A simple infographic near the room window will brief you on this mechanism.
Fall and Winter
The same principles work in winter as well. However, windows should be maneuvered in reverse (if it is sunny in the morning leave it open, in the evening close it-if you are not there we will take care of it). Wood stoves heat the earthen walls of almost any room by radiating heat with minimal wood consumption. Where they are not present you will find low-power electric panels that run at low temperature for an extended period of time until the early hours of the night). In this way, the rooms remain healthy, without condensation and without bacteria like those always tightened in apartments. Pay attention and you will notice the difference of living in environments that are constantly ventilated and purified by the use of lime.
6. Light use: energy saving
Limolo is equipped with LED bulbs and on/off sensors. The rooms have good natural light, and until night falls there is hardly any need for electric light.
Please be careful not to leave lights on when not needed.
In your room you will also find the indication for turning on the garden lights should you wish to eat or spend pleasant hours in the cool of the evening.
7. Water use: water saving
Sardinia is a drought region, especially in recent years. Our showers deliver about 10 liters of water per minute. We recommend a 4- to 5-minute shower. Hot water is produced by the solar thermal panel on the roof and if not enough by the gas heater in substitution. Appropriate use will not only avoid excessive consumption at the facility but also generally donate sustainable consumption for the community.
8. WI-FI
It is present in the entrance hall and the jaridno. The code can be found in the back of the front door and in special wooden panels in the breakfast garden.
It is not present in the rooms because it is naturally shielded by the earthen walls. Appreciate this healthy option that will give you a more peaceful and clean sleep.
9. Where to hang towels, swimsuits and linen?
Imagine you are on a secret mission in Limòlo: you must avoid hanging towels and swimsuits on chairs, tables, reeds, trees or outside dedicated spaces. You will find the treasure map on your room door that will show you where to “hide” your wet loot.
And be careful: don’t leave your shoes outside the room. This is also why there are dedicated spaces adjacent to the clotheslines. Semi-wild cats, invisible guardians of the yards of these houses, have been known to leave surprise “gifts” overnight. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Limòlo is a place for everyone. Every corner is a tribute to nature, art, and design. It is like a living picture that changes every day and that we all, together, help to create. We ask you to respect it, thus helping us to keep it beautiful and photographable.
If you can avoid bringing back too wet from the sea, you won’t need to lay in large quantities. But if you need more space, you will find some extra support in your room. And if you need to wash clothes or anything else, the laundromat nearby is super convenient!
And remember, if you leave anything lying around–well, consider it permission for us to put it in a bag (of recycled cloth, of course) outside your room. And beware, if it happens 3 times, be prepared to offer the aperitif to all Limòlo guests (and sometimes there are 12 of us or more) 🙂 🙂
10. Changing Towels and Sheets
Bath towels are changed on the morning of the fourth day of stay. A refreshment room ditto. Remember to agree with us whether you will leave it open or we can access it with our key. Sheets are changed on the seventh day of the stay.
If you stay one day we provide you with one towel (They do this abroad, why not in Italy too?). If you stay two days we suggest you try not to use all the towels.
Help us save energy and water
We ask that you place in the appropriate bin found in your room or on the floor near the doorway to the room, only those that you feel need to be changed.
Common Areas
At Limòlo, in the common spaces, art, design, and sustainability come together, creating a spontaneous, creative, evocative environment. From the entrance hall, decorated with art installations often made with reclaimed objects, to the tranquil inner gardens, Limòlo offers a unique setting to experience moments of community and dialogue, emphasizing the importance of each individual contribution towards a common goal: responsible stay. Guests move within Limolo somewhat like the crew of a sailing boat. And so, when the regatta is over, pardon, the stay, it often happens that they bid farewell with an exchange of addresses. This is one of our satisfactions.

* The Water Fountain
* Waste and Separate Collection
* Events & Aperitifs
11. Water to Drink
There is a special faucet in the garden with an activated carbon filter.
Find steel water bottles and glass bottles and glasses alongside. Use them as needed and try not to buy water in plastic bottles.
We ask you to leave 1.00 euro for using the service every 3 days, in the Green piggy bank. You will help us cut down the amount of plastic waste, buy the new filters and new trees to plant in the surrounding area, continue in the Green events everyone knows us for by now. And you will certainly save on the eventual purchase of packaged water bottles.
12. Use of the Refrigerator
You can use the refrigerator in the breakfast garden for your bottle of water or store small amounts of fresh food if enclosed in special boxes that we provide and that you must mark with the name of the room (using scotch paper and pencil).
Keep what you will use tidy and clean and store modest quantities so as not to prevent other users from using them as well and to avoid food waste.
Want a cold beer or a bottle of wine? They are available to guests for a small fee to be left on the vintage scale beside the refrigerator.
13. Breakfast
The Limolo House breakfast is self-managed. You will find the breakfast kit of wooden or vintage utensils dedicated to each room in the special wooden box. We ask you to take good care of it and store it in order every day. You will be able to wash it in the wooden water basin with Eco soap provided by NEgozio Leggero in Turin, inside Luciano Pia’s art installation, Half Liter Green, a decomposed tree that reminds you that we must adapt to nature and not vice versa. Dedicated to saving water and reusing whitewater for the purpose of watering garden plants. You can help with this by pouring the water collected in an enamel iron container to the plants in the garden, which will thank you with lots of greenery and freshness!
All products are zero-mile.
Get acquainted with our producers with a look at the presentation brochure in the breakfast garden. We selected them based on the sustainability practices they apply and the short supply chain they are part of. If you would like to visit them, they will be happy to welcome you and tell you about their activities and efforts.
14. Use of the Collective Kitchen
Use of the kitchen is allowed for simple meals The kitchen is equipped with the basics (oil, vinegar, salt and pepper) and should be used according to Limolo Kitchens rules (in short: leave it as clean as you found it)
You can enjoy the use of plates, cutlery and glasses at no extra charge. If you bring in ready-to-eat food from outside, you can consume it in the OUTDOOR common areas, taking care to wash and store plates, cutlery and what you use.
Co-living
The outdoor common spaces welcome moments of socialization, where it's possible to consume food brought from outside, always with the commitment to leave it clean. Also crucial is attention to separate waste collection, with the Zero Waste objective to minimize waste.
* Waste and Separate Collection
"There is a private Ecological Island at Limolo. Built with recycled materials. It's located in the space next to the Coast room. Our goal is to produce as little waste as possible. We ask you to be mindful by trying to purchase products without packaging and using the recycled sail bag provided in each room for shopping.
* Where Smoking is Allowed
In the Limoletto garden. The one at the back topped by the pergola, see the map in the instructions we send you. You will find recycling tin cans. Empty the cigarette remnants from the ashtray into them. The next guests will find it empty. Better, isn't it?
* Aperitifs & Events
Limolo is a peaceful and secluded place but at the same time, in some of its intricate gardens, it hosts parties, tastings, and dinners among gourmet enthusiasts, workshops, and events. Ask us for the events program if you want to secure a front-row seat. And if you're a guest on Tuesday, don't forget the Green aperitif!
15. Waste and Recycling: Objective Zéro déchet!
Last but not least: Most important! Strictly observe recycling collection. It is critical to the circular economy because it allows so many materials to be recycled or reused, reducing the overall amount of waste.
WARNING: You also choose your products by the type of packaging. Often excellent quality products have packaging made of paper or compostable materials or can be purchased loose in paper bags. Avoid single-serving portions and anything enclosed by large boxes or plastic bags. You will help us in our ZERO DECHET mission! (Waste productions = 0!).
Look at the map, in the Jardin Close there is a real Ecological Island for guests with all the dedicated bins. Wet waste must first be sealed in the special bags we provide.
The small HUMID – DRY – PLASTIC – GLASS – PAPER bins outside the kitchen in the breakfast space are ONLY for breakfast waste. Put the compostable residue in the red bucket and if you want, empty it directly into the compost bin (in the Lemon Garden – see map).
IMPORTANT: Plastic bottles and other bulky packaging should be crushed and shredded before being thrown away (we still discourage purchase).
We provide you with a recycled canvas bag, reusable for purchases during your stay. You can also buy it if you want. Proceeds will be used to purchase trees and plants to offset CO2 calculated in Limolo’s Foot Print.
16. Smoking Area and Cigarettes
The Smoking Area in Limolo is in the Limoletto garden. More ventilated and suitable. Cigarettes should be extinguished in the ashtrays on the tables. Empty the ashtray into the small ashtray container provided, which you will find marked in each of the gardens.
17. Sustainable Aperitifs & Events
What is Foot Print? What isenergy efficiency? How can indoor temperatures be optimized using natural ventilation? How do green architecture, green building, and permaculture help us cope with climate change without increasing energy consumption? Do you have any other questions about applied or applicable sustainability measures, your habits, or would you like to give us more tips for further improvement? We will be very happy to compare with you.
We talk about it over a nice aperitif or at our Green events. Ask us for the calendar or arrange one yourself during your stay in Limòlo. We are open to suggestions and can arrange a time for discussion with you. We are waiting for you!
Do you have any more doubts or questions?
Limolo is a place like few others exist, where respect for the territory is perceived through the use of natural materials and where sustainability finds the perfect balance with contemporary art.
